De-ice boot refurbishment

De-ice boot
cosmetic refurbishment.

Cosmetic appearance care for de-ice boots — cleaned and dressed to an even, non-chalky finish, always coordinated with your approved maintenance provider.

01Overview

Cosmetic work,
clearly bounded.

Chalked, grey, streaked boots make an otherwise excellent aircraft look neglected. Restoring their appearance is straightforward — as long as everyone is clear that appearance is all it is.

De-ice boots weather. Ultraviolet exposure, airborne abrasion, cleaning chemicals and age all take the surface from deep black to a chalky grey, and a boot in that state drags the whole leading edge down visually — particularly next to freshly polished brightwork.

Cosmetic refurbishment means cleaning the boot surface appropriately and applying a dressing compatible with the boot material to bring the appearance back to an even, consistent finish. Done properly it makes a substantial visual difference to the aircraft, especially in photographs.

What it categorically is not: repair. We do not patch, bond, seal, or treat delamination, and we do not touch anything to do with the boot's function. Every boot scope is coordinated with your approved maintenance provider first, and anything we find that looks like a condition issue goes straight to them.

02Method

How the work is run.

  1. 01

    Coordinate first

Before anything is scheduled, the scope is agreed with your approved maintenance provider so everyone understands it is cosmetic work.

  2. 02

    Inspect and document

Boots are inspected for visible condition. Anything that looks like lifting, delamination, cuts or damage is documented and referred, not worked on.

  3. 03

    Mask adjacent surfaces

Paint, polished metal and composite around the boot are protected before cleaning products go anywhere near them.

  4. 04

    Clean the surface

Boot surfaces are cleaned with products chosen for compatibility with the material, removing chalking and accumulated film.

  5. 05

    Dress to an even finish

A compatible dressing is applied evenly so the boot presents consistently along its full length rather than in patches.

  6. 06

    Report and hand back

Condition observations go to you and to your maintenance provider along with the completion record.

Why boots make or break a leading edge

A perfectly polished leading edge sitting next to a chalked grey boot draws attention to the boot. Doing both in one visit is why the leading edge reads as finished rather than half-finished.

  • Frequently scheduled alongside brightwork
  • Even finish along the full boot length
  • Adjacent polished metal masked throughout
  • Noticeable difference in listing photography

The boundary, stated plainly

The line between cosmetic care and maintenance on a de-ice boot is not a grey area, and we treat it as absolute. Appearance is ours. Condition, serviceability and repair are your maintenance provider's.

  • No repair, patching, bonding or sealing of any kind
  • No work on boot function, plumbing or controls
  • Lifting, cuts or delamination reported immediately and left untouched
  • Provider coordination is a precondition, not a courtesy

Where we stop

Appearance only — and we mean only.

This is the most tightly bounded scope we offer, deliberately. Boots are functional, certified components and their condition belongs to maintenance.

  • No repair, patching, bonding, sealing or functional work of any kind
  • No work performed without prior coordination with your maintenance provider
  • Any sign of lifting, cutting or delamination stops the work immediately
  • We make no representation about boot serviceability, ever
